Why smaller beats bigger here
The famous North Shore beaches fill up by ten in July. The better move is the smaller town strand and cove beaches, where the water is warmer, the parking is honest, and you can hear the person next to you.
The list
1. King's Beach, Lynn/Shore Road
A long thin crescent with a nice view and usually a free street spot if you arrive early.
2. Fisherman's Beach, Swampscott
Calm, family friendly, and sheltered enough for small kids on a warm day.
3. Phillips Beach, Swampscott
Rocky at the edges, quiet almost year round, great for a walk more than a swim.
4. Beach Bluff, Swampscott
Tiny, scenic, and the kind of place locals keep to themselves.
5. Tucks Beach, Marblehead
Harbor-side, gentle, and perfect for watching boats instead of fighting waves.
6. Fishermen's Beach, Marblehead Neck
Small and tucked, with the causeway and lighthouse a short walk away.
7. Good Harbor cousins, Gloucester side
Drive a little farther north and the Cape Ann coves get even quieter.
Rules of the small beach
Arrive early, take everything out with you, and do not announce the spot to a crowd. These beaches stay quiet because the people who love them keep them that way. Always grab a map before you go exploring the side streets around them.
